Event Horizon

Gouache paintings on paper. approximately 65” x 45”

The title, “Event Horizon", refers to the point when there is no escape from a black hole's gravitational field. It is at the boundary when "moving into the hole is as inevitable as moving forward in time".

This series of paper models and paintings are preliminary representations of differing points of view in an installation that will fill the entire exhibition space from the floor-to-ceiling and wall-to-wall. The varying geometric planes will be made out of ultra-lightweight parachute material and aluminum rods secured by cord and screw eye rings. The installation will travel, adapt and conform easily to any space. A single strong light source will be installed on a long ceiling track. The track will be aligned to the rotation of the sun at the location of the installation site. The light will slowly move across the ceiling on the track. As the viewer walks through the installation the shadows will be constantly moving and changing.
